Chandramukhi - Indian Ishtyle Movie Watching!!

There was excitement in the air, lot of commotion. People were searching for good seats, kids shouting and getting underway. This was the scene that greeted us when we entered the local theatre where Chandramukhi was aired.

As usual hubby and me were the last to arrive but intelligent me knew this so had gotten the tickets that were being sold a month in advance to when the movie was being aired. It was hosted by the local Tamil sangam and there were representatives of them in every company in our little city. So I got the tickets practically @ my work desk.

Now prior to watching thalaivar movie all preparation were being made everywhere. Friends I knew were all so prepared with festoons and bugles. Hubby dear was going sore practising to whistle. (I am a better whistler than him....which annoys him no end :) ) !!)
He was all excited to do his part during the movie. I like this quality in him. He never reserves anything when going gung ho in a party/outing. All out guy otherwise tortoise inside the house inside the couch. Anyways I digress....

One of my good friend wanted a lift to the theatre from the metro station. Which meant starting atleast 30 mins before the movie time. Unheard of in our lifestyle. But we did manage to go and pick our friend and go to the movie exactly on time....this is US.

So when we entered the movie hall after greeting various friends whom we were meeting after a long time, we find the all the good seats are taken. So had to sit 3 rows behind the huge screen. Hubby dear was not deterred. Instead he enthusiased that he was getting to watch Rajini in close up. I too got caught in his infectious enjoyment.

The theatre was bubbling with supressed excitement. Everybody was waiting for the movie to start so that they can start their revelry. I could hear people sharing the reviews of the movie and I knew for sure atleast 50 percent have already seen the movie online. But felt happy that they wanted to make it a social event by coming to the theatre and seeing it as group. Understood the importance of a society and huge social gathering.

Hey not to get real senti here....the fun part is still yet to come....

The doors are shut. Light go off, there is a general hush in the audience and everybody's attention is towards the huge screen.

We see a silloutte of Rajini and his voice. Just then everybody claps, hoots, whistles. People burst their baloons and blow their trumpets. Suddenly we hear oooooo and Ahhhhhhs for whatever that was aired was an Advertisement for Rice. And there was this phony guy acting like Rajinikanth.

I was rolling out in laughter. I had already seen this Ad, when I had come to see Mumbai Xpress just a week back. So when i saw this reaction from the crowd i knew that this is gonna be fun.

Everybody felt a fool and there was a genaral embarrassment buzz going around. But no one could keep from smiling at their own folly.

So when the movie really came on the screen, the same zest was missing. People were wary, i guess. The first scene where our thalaivar makes an entry is shown from his feet. Huge feet dangling in front of your face, as I was sitting real close to the screen, felt disgusted. But thalaivars matrix fight was comical. But his hero charm has not yet gone . People went crazy clapping for him.

The movie can in no way be compared to its Malayalam counterpart. There are genre apart. But Chandramukhi had its own appeal. I liked all the songs and what stayed back rest of the movie is no doubt Rajini's charm.

The general din of kids running around, ladies gossipping and the men's incessant comentary were just like one hears in our home town back home. I for one never lack for live commentary of anything under the sun. Hubby dear is a non stop commentator and teaser. People around him often enjoy his jokes and comments. And he was at his best that day. Kept laughing more on his jokes than vadivels and Rajnis jokes.

The only thing missing was murrukku, thatai in our authentic cinema halls. Anyway i never found then in Chennai theatres too. But when in my village theatre where we get to sit on wooden chairs and watch movie, we get to feast on murukku and thatai and the Muttapucchi (mosquitoes) feasts on us. But that was another kind of enjoyment.

All in all I had a great time.
